Gorman House Arts Centre Gorman House Arts Centre is an ACT Government facility - Admin office open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

Venue hire

Gorman House Arts Centre provides meeting venues just a five minute walk from Canberra's CBD. The atmosphere Monday to Friday is tranquil, quite a contrast to the lively pace generated by the weekend markets.

The charm of the 1920s architecture makes the training venues at Gorman House popular with many government departments, corporations and community organisations.

Participants at workshops enjoy the privacy of the venues, and the opportunity to break into small working groups around the grounds of the Centre. The verandahs and the lawns of the courtyards provide an opportunity to relax in the fresh air and sunshine between sessions.

Bogong Theatre

The Bogong Theatre is a versatile conference, seminar or training venue. Originally built in the 1920s as a dining room, the Bogong features a high ceiling with exposed beams, reverse cycle air conditioning, and opens onto courtyards enclosed by covered walkways. It is adjacent to courtyard dining at the Sage Restaurant.

The Bogong Theatre has a capacity of up to 75 people, though we recommend between 50 and 60 people for lecture style seating. A whiteboard, overhead projector and additional chairs and tables are available.

Fireplace Room

The Fireplace Room is a quiet, comfortable meeting and training venue. The space is well lit, carpeted, and has reverse cycle air conditioning. It adjoins the Bogong Theatre via a foyer, and for larger events the two spaces may be hired together.

The Fireplace Room can be divided by a retractable wall to create two pleasant rooms, each seating 30, with separate access.

ArtSit

The ArtSit is a small studio bedsit with a double bed, kitchenette, table and chairs and a separate bathroom.

The ArtSit is to provide low cost, comfortable accommodation for artists, curators or arts industry workers who are working on projects within the Centre or in Canberra. Please note that the ArtSit does not have a separate studio.

Priority is given to applicants for whom the availability of the ArtSit will make a difference to the project proposed. Organisations not based at Gorman House are eligible to apply, however preference is given to applications from resident organisations at Gorman House Arts Centre.
