DNA Studios

DNA Studios, opened its doors in January 2006, its vision to provide Dance and Theatre practice to the Canberra and regional community that is safe, educated, cost efficient and relative to the requirements of today’s industry. Now in their third year of operation, the studios have grown tremendously and now have over 80 members that attend classes and workshops. The studios also cater for other theatre practice including rehearsal space, performance venue and other functions.

This year has seen yet another colorful range of artists including Chrissie Shaw, Clint Dowdell, Padma Menon, Lara Lightfoot, Mirramu Dance Company and many others.

Outside of the studios DNA has built up a fantastic reputation, with performers employed in various shows and corporate events including; The International Association for Dance Medicine & Science held at the Australian Institute of Sport and most recently Berlin – Cabaret of Desire presented by the Street Theatre.

Janine is happy that the vision she set out with for DNA has worked so well and so many parents and students are thriving in its safe dance environment. Janine recently received a letter from a parent at the studios which read as follows.

“My daughter and her friend started at DNA dance studios in early 2006. Prior to that they had been at 2 other dance studios; one for 2 years and the other 2 months. We withdrew the girls from these classes, because while they enjoyed the concerts the teacher seemed to focus on what the girls were doing wrong rather than teaching them how to do it well.

One of the things we noticed straight away about Janine’s classes was that she was able to explain to them how movement, positions should feel, what they were doing right and how they could improve their technique. The other enlightening aspect was that Janine allows students to wear clothing that they can move in and where she can see the movement.

Since joining DNA their enjoyment and dance has increased enormously”
